THE CREATOR NOTEBOOK ·FIELD NOTES
The anatomy of a satisfying transition
Match the frame, give the cut a reason, and make the reveal count.
Choose one thing to change
An outfit, a setting or a mood can carry the reveal. Keeping the other elements steady gives the viewer an easy way to notice the change.
Match position across the cut
Keep the subject in roughly the same part of the frame. A hand crossing the lens, a turn or a camera move can create a natural place to hide the edit.
Think about the ending first
Plan the strongest final frame before recording the setup. A transition works best when the reveal gives the movement a purpose.
Borrow a structure, add your perspective
Study timing and framing in the inspiration edit. Create your own footage and use audio you are allowed to publish; do not treat a reference as permission to copy a creator’s work.
